Too bad we didn't catch the finish!

Mother Nature still has not decided to allow the sun to peak through the clouds, but she did at least keep the rain at bay today. While the weather was not ideal, it was still nice enough that many more people ventured out to enjoy the beach. While I love the sound of the ocean, and watching the waves rolling in, I am not a fan of the beach. Courtesy of genetics I do not have the complexion for the beach (I turn lobster red within minutes), and I am not a fan of sand (how do those little grains manage to get everywhere...especially places they really shouldn't?!), but I do enjoy people watching, and the beach certainly provides an excellent place to do just that. After spending part of the morning people watching at our end of the island the Hubs and I decided we would venture out and about to see what sort of trouble we could get into for the afternoon. As we drove along the seawall I indulged in a bit of people watching and soon spotted what I can only describe as one of the oddest races I have ever witnessed. Flying low over the beach was an enormous pelican, directly behind the pelican was a German Shepherd running at full speed in what I can only assume was an attempt to catch the pelican, and quite a ways behind the German Shepherd followed the pup's owner. While I will say the German Shepherd was extremely fast, I would have to say it stood very little chance of ever catching the pelican, and while the pup may have stood a very slim chance in his race with the pelican, the owner of said pup may have stood even less of a chance of catching his pup! Sadly we were unable to see the finish of the race as it was being run in the opposite direction to which we were traveling, but I hope for the pup's sake he failed to catch his prey...pelicans are not only big, but they tend to have rather nasty attitudes as well, and I feel certain the pup would have deeply regretted it had it actually caught up with the pelican. I also hope the poor pup's owner was eventually able to catch his wayward friend as there seemed to be more than just a few people who were made nervous by the sight of a German Shepherd barreling full speed down the beach towards them! I was impressed with the Shepherd's determination, but I couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of its frustrated owner attempting to catch up to it. Although I doubt you've been witness to a race between a pelican, a German Shepherd, and a frustrated human, I still hope you have found something to chuckle at today.

Blessings, Candi 💕
