Nov. 15th - The Day The Hubs And I Woke Up In A Wal-Mart Parking Lot 🛌

Yep...you read that right...a Wal-Mart parking lot.

After a six month delay the Hubs and I are finally taking our vacation! It’s time for us to really break in the new travel trailer and see more of this wonderful country of ours. First stop, Carlsbad, NM on Saturday night. Instead of driving the full eight hours in one shot we decided to head out Friday afternoon and hit the midway point, that being Abilene, TX. Since we had not made a reservation for a campsite on Friday night we had to boondock...hence the Wal-Mart parking lot “where RVs are always welcome”. I have to say for a couple of rookie RVers our first ever experience with boondocking went very well. Our good friend Brad also gave us a great tip on where to have lunch in Abilene before heading out. I have to say he was absolutely right...the food at Belle’s Chicken Dinner House was great and their rolls were to die for! The trip from Abilene to Carlsbad had several firsts for the both of us...the first time either of us has driven through West Texas, the first time either of us has ever seen an actual true life tumbleweed, the first time either of us has seen a giant peanut patty in the shape of Texas, and the first time either of us has driven across the New Mexico State line. We also came to the conclusion that those particular areas of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico are not really our cup of tea. If you are really fond of a lot of flat land covered in power lines, oil rigs, wind turbines, and dirt (remove the wind turbines and substitute scrub brush for dirt in New Mexico), then you’d love West Texas and Eastern New Mexico! However...our opinion changed drastically once we reached the Carlsbad Caverns National Park...the view from the top of those hills was amazing! We arrived at sunset and it was gorgeous! We’ll be heading back there first thing in the morning to explore the caverns as well, then we’re off to Tucson, AZ. It was a wonderful day spent with the Hubs and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s adventures! It really is wonderful to be able to spend some quality time with my favorite person in the world! I hope you are able to spend some quality time with your favorite person as well.
