Not the kind that wears robes and a funny hat...more the kind that flies.

It’s been another relaxing day here in Texas and I’ve spent some time today watching the bird feeders. Today my patience was rewarded with the arrival of one of the most vibrantly red and beautiful cardinals I have ever seen. We are lucky enough to have several pairs of cardinals who like to frequent the bird feeders, but today seemed different for some reason. I have always heard when a cardinal visits it signifies the spirit of a lost loved one is near. Sadly I lost my mother unexpectedly early this year and my father lost his battle with pancreatic cancer eight years ago. The loss of both of my parents has been extremely difficult for me to deal with so the sight of such a gorgeous cardinal definitely brightened my spirits today. Just the idea that my parents are watching over me is so comforting to me. While this cardinal did not stay very long, the few precious moments it did stay brought a sense of calm and peace to me I don’t very often feel. No matter what your age, I think the loss of your parents is something which changes you in an almost primal way. For the first time in your life you realize you are truly on your own without the safety net of your parents to fall back on, and that is a truly scary feeling. Thanks to the short but sweet visit of that beautiful cardinal I felt maybe I’m not as on my own as I thought. Hopefully you also have something or someone who brings you that sense of peace and security as well.

Blessings, Candi 💕
